WHY A “MESSY PROCESS”?
You may be thinking:
“Life already feels impossibly complicated, why would I choose to engage in mess? Mess is precisely the thing I would like to eradicate from my life! The reason I’m here is because I would like things to feel organized, untangled, neat, clean, and simple. I am looking for clarity, direction, and relief. Why would I turn toward this chaos? Why would I get my hands dirty? Why on earth would I say YES to sinking deeper into a messy process?!?”
The truth is: messiness is simply where we are. And the first step to changing the things that are not working in your life is to understand and accept the reality of your current situation. My goal, first and foremost, is to support you in slowing down so that you can stop running away from what feels intolerable, so that you can experience yourself as you are. So that you can integrate a deeper understanding and compassion for who you are, develop the skills to overcome barriers, and become the person you know you can be.
I believe that to some extent we all have “parts” that feel too messy to share with the world. Over time these parts become too overwhelming to even acknowledge. It is incredibly vulnerable to allow another person to witness your mess. It can also be radically transformative to invite in that witnessing presence as you experience the full magnitude of your messiness, explore the tangled intricacies, tease out the patterns, work out the knots, and get reacquainted with these estranged parts.
You have undoubtedly received conditioning throughout your life that tells you to not make a mess. I am intentional in creating a physical space that gives permission to make a mess, one that supports and allows a physical outer manifestation of what is happening internally, with the purpose of understanding, accepting, and transforming those internal states. The always dirty floor is the safe container for unapologetically expressing what needs to be expressed. So yes, maintaining a perpetually paint-splattered and clay-smeared work area is a core part of my philosophy.
I love hanging out with mess. I love creatively navigating this fertile ground side by side. It is an honor to serve as guide and witness in this process. I promise to journey with you through the mess and accompany you to the place of clarity and commitment.
